What Is Blackhat SEO?

Online there are billions of searches seach and every month for products and services. Having a well designed website is like having a great designed store on the main street. Your website is like your store front, there are millions of them and it’s all about getting your store visited the most. Driving internet traffic to your website store front is what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about. The techniques involved can be categorized into White Hat, Grey Hat and Black Hat.

The techniques that are unethical and trick search engines into ranking web pages higher are known as Black Hat techniques. When people online want to find a product or service they most often will use a search engine to find it. People using search engines generally will not look beyond the second page of the listing. For this reason it is of the upmost importance to be listed on the first page when people are searching for your product or service. Those who adopt black hat techniques thing it is ok to do so as everyone else does. This is the same argument a child uses when their hand is caught in the cookie jar. A portion of population practicing a bad thing does not make it right.

The technique of black hat is the art of deception. One of these deceptive methods is the use of Doorway Pages. These pages are stuffed with keywords and phrases that are used to trick the search engine spiders into giving them a high ranking. When the searcher clicks on the doorway page he is redirected to the actual web site, which may not even be related to what the searcher was searching for. Search engines put in a lot of work to stay one step ahead of those who adopt black hat tactics in order to keep search results relevant and informative.

The reality of black hat SEO is that it is a very temporal solution to traffic generation. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing expend a lot of effort in keeping their search engines clean from black hat practices. If users cannot find what they are looking for on one search engine they will move to another which is why the search engine providers are so strict when it comes to black hat techniques, after all the search result is their product. Search engine providers will soon penalise you if you start to use these black hat techniques in order to increase your webpage ranking. In 2006 BMW and Richo’s pages were removed by Google in Germany when they started using these black hat SEO techniques.
